May is National Foster Care month. Did you know there are over ½ million American foster children in the US? These children need stable, loving care until they can be reunited, safely with their families or until they establish another lifelong relationship with a nurturing adult.
I have had the opportunity to get acquainted with several foster families at GCC and I must say it’s been a blessing to me and I have learned a great deal from them. Foster parenting is a calling and a gift from God. Foster parents are uniquely called to support and give unconditional love to their foster children. These parents know that perhaps the children will be in their care for only a season, but they are committed to love them for a lifetime.
I think foster parenting or volunteering a few hours a week or month is a great way for the folks at Grace Capital Church to impact the Central New Hampshire region. You may not be called to be a full-time foster parent, but no matter how much time you have to give you have the power to do something positive that will ‘change a lifetime” for a young person in foster care.
We need Christian foster parents who will love the children and introduce and reinforce the love of Christ in their homes. This may be the first time a foster child has been introduced to the love and grace of God.
Training is provided to become licensed through Child and Family Services. If you feel God is calling you to become a foster parent, let me know and I can introduce you to some of the foster parents at GCC so you can become more familiar with what foster parenting is all about.
God is good…all the time!
